đ˛Â Instagram Image Ratio
As many of you know, Instagram is a visual platformâevery post needs an image. Historically, square images (1:1 ratio) have been the standard. Weâve always resized graphics accordingly to keep everything looking neat.
However, since January, Instagram has leaned more towards a 4:5 vertical formatâa taller layout that renders better – takes up more space on mobile devices. While square images still display, weâre starting to see some design issues:
- Text running off the edge
- Images appearing cropped on desktop
- Overall less attractive presentation
At Zedcomms, we prioritise the technical and strategic aspects of marketing firstâthings like alt tags, optimised text, researched hashtags, smart tagging, and using a centralised corporate promotional message. The reason? These elements deliver faster, more cost-effective results for our clients.
While aesthetics are important, they should follow after the technical groundwork is in place. You can spend a lot of time and money perfecting a graphic, but without the right strategy behind it, it wonât make much impact.
That said, this update is more about the visual side of things. We noticed that some of the Instagram graphics we were producing werenât displaying wellâthey were actually taking away from the message we were trying to promote. So, weâve made the decision to update all Instagram posts to the 4:5 aspect ratio going forward, ensuring they look sharp and professional while still being technically optimised.
đ So from now on, all Instagram graphics we create will follow the 4:5 ratio to ensure they look sharp and professional across all devices.
The 4:5 image format also renders well on Facebook and Twitter/X. In fact, weâve seen many large corporations using this format across all platformsâso weâre confident weâre on the right track.
If youâre one of our clients, youâll start seeing this change in your upcoming posts.
And if youâre not a client yetâwell, maybe itâs time we had a chat đ
